The Phoenix Art Museum

The Phoenix Art Museum is a must-see while in Phoenix. Located at 1625 N Central Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85004. Owned by the City of Phoenix, it houses one of the country's most extensive collections of modern and contemporary fine art. From Andy Warhol to Roy Lichtenstein, the Phoenix Art Museum has something for everyone. You'll find modern art from around the globe on one level, and then lower down, you can explore more traditional works on loan from local and national museums on another level. In between, you’ll find an exciting array of temporary exhibitions that will keep you coming back time and time again.

The museum is great for all ages. From children to adults, visitors come here to see great works of art at an affordable price. The portions are small but worth every bite. You won't leave hungry or thirsty at The Phoenix Art Museum!

The Phoenix Art Museum has a very friendly and helpful staff. They’ll make you feel right at home the moment you step inside the museum. You’ll meet some amazing curators and experts along the way, and you’ll get an in-depth tour of their collection. This is a great way to meet other art fans, as there’s no pre-gaming necessary!

The Phoenix Art Museum is one of the most well-rounded museums in the country. While you’re here, you can explore the art of many cultures and time periods, with rotating exhibitions that span the last century. This is a great place to catch up with the locals and discover a new community of art lovers. You’ll find a large collection of modern and contemporary art on the ground floor, which is where you’ll start your tour. You can visit the second floor easily, but it’s a bit pricey, so I recommend starting your tour on the ground floor.

If you want to focus on modern and contemporary art, the first floor of the museum houses more than 50 works by prominent American artists, including Mark Rothko, Willem de Kooning, Jasper Johns, and installation art conceptual artist Robert Mangold. There are also many smaller exhibitions throughout the year, including traveling exhibitions, retrospectives, and group shows.

Bowery Gallery is located on the second floor of the Phoenix Art Museum. It’s home to more than 100 works of American and world art, including paintings, drawings, prints, and decorative arts. These are the works of famous and lesser-known artists, as well as a few California artists, who lived, worked, and painted in the United States. The gallery also has a large collection of Asian art, including more than a dozen paintings by Chino Latino. This is a fantastic place to start your tour of the museum.

The second floor of the Phoenix Art Museum houses a rotating display of contemporary art. This is where you’ll find work by many of the region’s up-and-coming contemporary artists. The museum also hosts an annual open studio series, where local artists are free to create works in public view. You’ll also find a lot of independent and alternative art in the museum’s permanent collection, including a variety of spin-off and hybrid shows. You can find many of the gallery’s temporary exhibitions on the second floor as well, including those that spotlight a given region or country.

The third floor of the Phoenix Art Museum houses a large variety of temporary exhibitions. Many are just five to 10 days long, and some are permanent. The annual juried Desert Art Show, held in February, is the biggest event celebrating contemporary desert art. You’ll also find group shows, traveling exhibitions, and special events, like the annual Oktoberfest beer-braised pork ribs at the fall festival.

As you explore the second floor of the museum, you’ll notice that there are many rooms with doors that lead to a hallway. This is where the exhibit hall is located. Exhibits in the exhibit hall are on permanent display, though they rotate regularly.
